Extraordinary Desserts Review

Extraordinary Desserts

If you’ve never been to San Diego, California,  you need to plan a trip – stat. If for no other reason than to visit this darling dessert shop.  They have two locations in the San Diego area. I visited the one on 5th Street, right next to Balboa Park and right next to Nature-Express, a fascinating little vegetarian restaurant. (Unfortunately, I didn’t get to eat there since I had just come from another veg place across town. Had I known, I would have planned that one a little better).

Located in a cute cottage style house with both indoor and outdoor seating, this place is a little taste of heaven. I think I committed every single one of the 7 deadly sins just walking in and eating here!

They have a decadent selection of sweet treats enough to make any true dessert lover swoon. After lingering over their massive case of goodies and after much debate, I finally settled on the Lemon Berry Napoleon. It was lemon creme and a berry medley between light, crispy pastry sheets, then all covered with more whipped lemon cream. It was all laying on a bed of fruit purees swirled into a fancy design. And the whole thing was topped off with more fresh fruit and gorgeous flowers. The dessert was so large, I couldn’t eat it all and had to take half of it back to the hotel with me.

I also ordered a cup of coffee – Lion Vanilla Macadamia – that was to die for. And it was served with a side of cream and rock sugar. How fun is that?  I have fallen so madly in love with this coffee that I’ve already gone online and purchased a couple pounds of it so I can make it at home.

My only complaint is that it can be a little confusing how/where to order – especially when there are a lot of people crowding around the counters to see the goodies. And when it’s busy, it’s a bit loud inside, so communication with the worker was a little difficult.

But in all… I cannot wait to go back!!!  This is my new favorite dessert shop! :)

  1. Oh YUM! I’m glad you really enjoyed your dessert after a so-so dinner experience. I *think* they sell that coffee at the Hawaiian Coffee/Smoothie bar out here in Dublin. I’ll have to go check and let you know!
